HOYO FILMS

HOYO Films is an independent production company based in London, founded by EMMY-award-winning filmmaker Jamie Roberts in 2023. We make agenda setting films that focus on people at the centre of international stories for global audiences. HOYO recently completed its debut film; Ukraine: Enemy in the Woods for BBC Current Affairs.

JAMIE ROBERTS

Jamie initially worked in the commercial sector, making films for brands including Nike, Universal and Sony. Since then he has directed several critically-acclaimed documentaries for UK and international television including Angry White and Proud (Channel 4), War Child (about unaccompanied child refugees caught in the migrant crisis, Channel 4), The Jihadis Next Door (about London jihadis joining ISIS, Channel 4) and Manchester: The Night of the Bomb (a forensic retelling of the 2017 Ariana Grande concert atrocity, BBC).

Jamie won an RTS award for his BBC film The fires that foretold Grenfell (BBC). In 2020 he series directed and filmed The rise of the Murdoch dynasty (BBC), that was nominated for a BAFTA and winner of the 2021 Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Best Documentary Mini-Series.

In 2021, Jamie filmed, produced and directed Four hours at the Capitol for HBO and the BBC. The 90-minute-feature documentary has been distributed globally, and was nominated for two BAFTA’s and an EMMY. This was followed by Escape from Kabul, an EMMY winning and BAFTA nominated feature-length documentary that tells the inside story of the deadly 2021 Kabul evacuation, the final chapter in the 20-year-war between the Taliban & US-led NATO forces, for HBO, BBC & ARTE.  In 2023 Jamie made The Spider-Man of Paris, a Netflix Original feature documentary about an expert burglar who pulled off the biggest art heist in French history that has been nominated for a Best Single Documentary BAFTA.
